Why will I need to reset my Android phone remotely? I once had someone
come to me with the complaint of being unable to unlock her password-protected device after installing an OTA (over-the-air) update. No one
would believe that an update intended to maintain the fluid workings of a
phone's software would result in such a disappointment and you ask
yourself "Why did I even update my phone?". Updates are recommended by
phone manufacturers because they usually carry fixes and patches to
ensure the smooth running of your device but sometimes, things may go
the other direction after an update, especially for beta software
testers.
Normally, when stuffs go wrong on our phones, after all
consultations and attempts to fix the problem, we eventually have to Hard
reset as a last resort. Similarly, in this case, you can't access the phone because
it no longer recognizes your unlock pattern/password leaving us with the option of
wiping the phone through the Google account from another device with the following steps.
Firstly,
you need to be connected to the internet on the device you intend to
hard reset. If you have mobile data, then switch the data on. If you can connect to a
wireless infrastructure that would not demand for password, that's
another alternative. Just make sure the phone is connected to the
internet.
On another device or computer, go to android.com/find and sign in to your account.
Select
the particular device model you intend to erase off data. N.B. your
Google account has a list of Android devices you have operated with that
account. Any of these devices can be accessed, tracked, or formatted from that
account.
Nokia 5 is the sample device. play sound, Secure Device and Erase Device are some options you can effect from your Google account. |
By selecting "erase" and affirming your selection, the
command triggers remote formatting of the selected phone in question.
All data contacts, messages, phone internal storage, all internal
settings except contents in the memory card are wiped out.
